New Haven, CT – The women's squash team started their season tonight with a match against Yale. The #5 Bulldogs were a tough opponent for the Ephs, but the team played with their best efforts.
The Ephs played today using a 5-court system. First up was Sarah Willwerth (#1), Melissa Swann (#3), Anna Nicholson (#6), Alex Pear (#7), and Eliza Bower (#10). All five players fought extremely hard, but there were not much they could do tonight against the strong Bulldogs. Swann and Willwerth tried their best to move their opponents off the T and rally until Yale made the mistake, but in the end they both fell 3-0.
On court second was Haley Jefferson (#2), Quan Ng (#4), Kathryn Wright (#5), Mira Kamat (#8), and Isabel Kelly (#9). The five Ephs tried their best to rally and keep their opponents on court, but the Bulldogs were not to be stopped tonight. Jefferson and Ng displayed their best efforts to stay in the match and put up a fight but were eventually defeated in three straight games.
Coach Blair Dils said: "It was great getting out of Williamstown to play some new opponents. Unfortunately, we ran into a very tough Yale team. Despite the lopsided scores, we competed hard and are in a great place for the rest of our matches this weekend."
Tomorrow, the Ephs take on Dickinson at 3pm and then play two NESCAC matches on Sunday against Hamilton and Connecticut College.
