New Haven, CT – The Williams women's squash team downed Bates 9-0 this afternoon to earn their place in the Kurtz Cup consolation finals tomorrow!
First up was Haley Jefferson (#2), Quan Ng (#5), and Kathryn Wright (#8). Jefferson had a slow start and her Bobcat opponent put up a tough fight, but once she found her rhythm, she was able to play her style and close the match 3-0. Ng and Wright had a much easier time against their opponents and took care of business to win two more points for Williams.
Second on court today was Sarah Willwerth (#3), Co-Capatain Melissa Swann (#4), and Mira Kamat (#9). All three Lady Ephs came out strong and did not let the Bobcats steal a game off any of them as they all won their match 3-0.
Last on court today was Julia Ward (#1), Abby LeBlanc (#6), and Co-Captain Anna Nicholson (#7). Ward and Nicholson played smart squash to win against their opponents in straight games. LeBlanc found herself locked in another battle, but she outplayed the Bates #6 to win the match in four games and the final point for Williams.
Assistant coach Blair Dills said: "We had a great day against Bates with everyone putting their best foot forward after a tough loss yesterday. Only one game lost on the day shows we were ready to play efficient squash. Tomorrow's rematch with George Washington will be tough as they are playing well, much better than when we saw them in January."
Tomorrow, the Purple Cows will be playing George Washington at 2:30 PM for their final match of the season!
