Ephs Lose to Trinity 15-14

Box Score

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- Trinity's Katrina Angelucci scooped a groundball off a rebounded shot and scored the go ahead with two minutes and 40 seconds remaining, lifting the Bantams (1-0) past Williams (0-1) 15-14 in the season opener.

Angelucci proved to be the difference in the game, scoring six goals, including two to begin the day, helping Trinity to a 3-0 lead in the first ten minutes.

The Ephs fought back as senior Kara Wollmers netted 6 goals herself and freshman Shea van den Broek scored four of her own in what would turn out to be an outstanding rookie debut.

Williams entered halftime trailing 6-4.  Five minutes and 10 seconds into the half, Wollmers sent a beautiful pass to Van den Broek on the crease who pump faked and then fired a bounce shot into the net to even the score.

A minute and a half later, Sophie Millay scored off an assist from Meghan Keenan to give the Ephs their first lead of the day.

The game continued with both goalies making multiple saves including Trinity's Gabriella Young who finished with seven saves on the day and Caitlyn Joyce for the Ephs who finished with eight saves.  Williams' Kami Cisneros saved five in a brilliant first half performance.

Olivia Weckworth finally evened the score for Trinity at the 18:52 mark.  Wollmers quickly responded with another goal to regain the lead for the Ephs.

Both teams exchanged goals until junior Olivia Gomez grabbed a deflection and scored to put Williams up 14-13 with 4:16 remaining.

Angelucci responded with back to back goals with 2:40 left to give the Bantams the lead where the score would remain as Trinity edged the Ephs 15-14 in a well fought battle.

Coach Alice Lee was "really happy and proud of everyone's effort," noting "all of us played together as a unit."  On the subject of improvement, Lee is focused on "trying to get a little better everyday."

The Ephs will take on Skidmore tomorrow, March 1st, at 2 p.m. on Farley-Lamb field.
