Williamstown, MA.—The Ephs (5-4-2/NESCAC 2-3-2) took on the Bowdoin Polar Bears (6-4-1/NESCAC 3-4-1) in their 2nd game of the doubleheader weekend which ended in a 1-1 tie. The game-drawing goal for the Ephs came in the 55th minute.
Eamon Gara Grady played a ball into the box which bounced to
Henry Osborn at the back post. Osborn laid it off to
Daniel Zhang, who fired the ball into the inside of the post and into the net.
Felipe Gutierrez got things going for Williams in the 13th minute when drove the ball across the top of Bowdoin's 18-yard box. He dished the ball to a free
Henry Osborn whose shot was blocked by a Bowdoin defender.
The following minute,
Eli Petrik robbed the ball off the last Bowdoin defender and closed in on the goal. He fired a shot from 16 yards, but the Polar Bear goalkeeper Chris Kingston made a crucial stop.
In the 20th minute, Bowdoin's Drake Byrd scored the first goal of the game. He drove down the left wing and took a shot across his body which beat Williams keeper
Ben Diffley.
In the 64th minute,
Dan Rayhill created space on the right-hand side of the field and crossed a ball to
Nathan Song. Song flicked the ball towards the bottom left corner of the goal and forced Chris Kingston to make a diving save.
Half way through the second half,
Dan Rayhill dribbled towards goal and squared the ball to
Nathan Song who was free at the back post. Song tucked the ball into the net, but the goal was eventually disallowed due to a handball in the build up.
Henry Osborn delivered a corner kick to the middle of the box in the last minute of regular time.
Nathan Song found the ball at the back post and shot from a tight angle. The attempt was blocked, and there was a battle in the box for the ball which ultimately led to Bowdoin clearing it.
With the score tied 1-1 after 90 minutes, the game progressed into overtime.
With 7 minutes left in the first half of overtime,
Henry Osborn whipped a ball into the box off a corner.
Nick Boardman met the delivery with his head and put it across the frame of goal. Chris Kingston was forced to make a diving save, tipping the ball away off the goal line.
With neither team able to find a goal in overtime, the match ended level.
Kingston made a total of 9 saves and
Ben Diffley made 6 stops.
"I'm proud of the way the team played not just today, but all weekend," said Eph head coach
Steffen Siebert, reflecting on the game. "I'm especially pleased with the amount of chances we created and the work every single player displayed."
Next up for the Ephs is a non-conference game against Westfield State. The match will be a home contest at 7 PM on Wednesday at Farley-Lamb Field..
