BOWDOIN EARNS A CONFERENCE WIN OVER WILLIAMS

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - Bowdoin College (7-4-1, NESCAC 2-4-1) scored the only goal in the second half to pull out a conference win over Williams (3-7-1, NESCAC 1-6-1).

The deciding goal came in the 66th minute when senior Julia Adelmann let out a powerful shot into the left corner off of an assist from sophomore Morgan Smiley. Bowdoin's breakthrough followed 52 minutes of neither team finding the back of the net. Both defenses displayed extra tenacity and effort after each conceded a goal early.

At the 12 minute mark, the Bowdoin Polar Bears were aggressive; Senior Lynn Farquhar had a shot on goal and Adelmann got a chance right after. With great touch, she floated the ball out of the goalie's reach to give Bowdoin the first score of the day. The Ephs didn't wait too long to respond. Williams equalized with a goal in the 14th minute. Senior Mikayla Kappes headed the ball into the backside post off a beautiful cross from first year Blakeley Buckingham.

Though the game was defined by staunch defense from both teams, Williams still had opportunities to even the score in the second half. In the 76th minute, a shot from sophomore Sam Phan was just wide. Hearts stopped in the 81st when a great pass from freshman Tori Huang led to a thunderous strike from Kappes. Unfortunately, the diving save from Bowdoin senior Penny Rocchio prevented the equalizer. In the 89th minute, a header from Victoria Laino went just wide and ended hopes of overtime.

The Ephs have been on the wrong side of close games the entire season. When asked about how the team could build on its performances, Head coach Sarah Raymond said, "We commit to holding ourselves to a higher standard and getting better every day at the little things. We compete with so much heart and 100% effort every time and that's something we can count on. We will work to get better in the 18 yard boxes as that is where most of our games are being won and lost."

Williams has a pair of away matchups next weekend as they will travel to play at Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday and at Farmingdale (NY) State College on Sunday.
