Amherst Defeats Ephs 2-1 in Little Three Matchup

Amherst, MA.—The Ephs (4-3-1/NESCAC 1-2-1) faced off against the Amherst Mammoths (7-1/NESCAC 3-1-0), losing the game 2-1. The decisive goal from the Mammoths came in the 83rd minute off a free kick from Ignacio Cubeddu. Cubeddu put in a low driven cross across the Williams 18-yard box which German Giammatei tapped in from 3 yards out.

In the 6th minute, the Ephs had the first opportunity of the day. Keel Brissett received a long ball, turned his man, and played Nathan Song through. Song aimed for the bottom corner, but Amherst keeper Bernie White made an important save to keep the Mammoths level.

In the 12th minute, Jake Peters delivered a free kick cross from the middle of the field. The ball curled dangerously towards the back post, but Will Felitto was unable to put his head onto it.

Mammoth midfielder Declan Sung chipped a ball into the path of Nico Kenary in the 41st minute. Ben Diffley came confidently off his line and pounced on the ball before Kenary could meet it.

A long throw from Amherst's Bryce Johnson in the 50th minute made it to the back post to German Giammatei. Giamattei shot the ball from 6 yards out and Ben Diffley made an incredible foot save to push the ball away from danger.

At 59:54, Amherst forward Ada Okorogheye took the ball down the Ephs' left end line and laid it off to Nico Kenary who side footed the ball into the net from 4 yards to put the Mammoths up 1-0.

The Ephs responded within a minute to tie the game 1-1. Nathan Song set the ball to Jake Saudek who ripped a shot from 23 yards out and buried the ball into the side netting.

Ben Diffley made 8 saves for the Ephs while Bernie White made 2 for Amherst.

"Great performance today by all the guys," said Ephs head coach Steffen Siebert. "There are a lot of positive moments to build on today going into tomorrow's game."

The Ephs will play their second game of the doubleheader weekend tomorrow at 2:30 PM away against Connecticut College.
