WILLIAMSTOWN, MA
— The Williams Women Swimming and Diving team began their 2021-2022 season with a bang tonight at home versus Springfield. The women earned first in all sixteen events including fourteen swimming events and two diving events, finishing the night with a 196.5-94.5 victory.

The meet began with the Williams 400 medley A relay team of Sophia Verkleeren '25, Charlotte Wishnack '25, Sam Kilcoyne '23.5, and Emily Lock '22. Verkleeren threw down a 58.3 100 backstroke to put the team over two seconds ahead of the field. Kilcoyne raced a 55.8 100 butterfly, out splitting the competition by over four seconds.

Williams' distance freestyle legacy continued with sophomore Lillie Bushway '24 leading the pack in the 1000 freestyle where the Ephs took home the top three spots. Emma Schulman '24 had a strong Williams debut, winning both the 100 and 200 butterfly events with a noteworthy 2:10.2 in the 200. In an extremely close race, Verkleeren edged out the competition with a 24.91 in the 50 freestyle. In a testament to her versatility, Verkleeren also went on to win the 200 backstroke in a 2:09.3.

First-year Adelaide Herman '25 had an outstanding first meet with the Ephs, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. On 3-meter she competed her inward two and a half for the first time ever.

Continuing the sprinting events, Kilcoyne dropped an impressive 27.0 in the second 50 of her 100 freestyle to finish in a fast 52.8. The women earned the top four spots in the 200 breaststroke with first years Charlotte Wishnack '25 and Liz Ramoy '25 touching first and second, respectively. The meet concluded with the 200 freestyle relay where Kilcoyne anchored the A team in a 23.9 to win.

The new first-year and sophomore classes made their presence known in the water, on the boards, and with their energy throughout the meet. In a double meet weekend, the Ephs face Union College at the Samuelson-Muir pool in Williamstown on Saturday, November 20th at 1PM.
