Williamstown, MA -- The Williams Men's basketball team improved to 4-0 heading into Thanksgiving with a dominant 89-62 win over MCLA on Tuesday night.
Â
Williams had three players finish with double digit scoring. Leading the charge was sophomore
Cole Prowitt-Smith with 22, followed by first year
Brandon Roughley and junior
Spencer Spivy, scoring 15 and 12 respectively.
Â
Eph Coach
Kevin App discussed the team's strong start to the season, "This stretch is always tough, playing three games in four days. It's tough physically, emotionally, and mentally during a high academic time of the year and heading into a break. I'm super proud of our guys for competing against a good offensive team. Every year MCLA makes us a lot better and exposes a lot of areas, defensively especially, that we need to improve at."
Â
Prowitt-Smith got off to a hot start, scoring ten of the team's first fifteen points. Junior
Spencer Spivy was lighting it up from three point range, going 4-5 from beyond the arc to end the half with 12 points.
Â
MCLA was able to counter the offense of the Ephs with strong three point shooting from first year JoJo Garcia and senior Hayden Bird. Junior Quentin Gittens also had a strong half for the Trailblazers, scoring 8 points on 3-4 shooting.
Â
Eph guard
Ryan Moon helped to get all players involved on the offensive end, dishing out three assists in the first half. Senior
Marc Taylor scored the final six points of the half for the Ephs, all coming off strong baskets inside. First year
Brandon Roughley also had a strong first half, scoring seven points on 3-4 shooting and pulling down three rebounds.
Â
Williams took a twelve point lead into halftime, 45-33.
Â
The Williams lead stayed hovering around twelve until a series of scores from great passing led the Ephs on a 15-0 run to extend the lead to 68-41.
Â
"I told the guys, I've just really been enjoying watching them play. Our ball movement all four games has been great. We're averaging almost twenty assists a game." Coach App said of the team's excellent ability to share the ball. "The problem this weekend was turnovers so we just really made an effort to simplify it, not get tired, not make lazy decisions. Tonight to have 22 assists and 5 turnovers, you can't ask for much more as a coach."
Â
The Ephs continued to put on a show offensively for the rest of the game, finishing shooting 54% from the field overall and 40% from three point range.
Â
Williams is off until Sunday, Nov. 28 when they take on SUNY Delhi on the road at 2pm.
