Hartford, CT – The Williams College Ephs traveled down to Hartford to take on the Trinity College Bantams in their first dual meet of the season at 7:30 pm today. The Ephs came away with a 30-18 victory in front of a packed crowd over the Bantams in Oosting Gymnasium, courtesy of four pins and three critical wins by decision.
The results were as follows:
Reflecting on the meet Coach
Scott Honecker said, "Hats off to Trinity. They trotted out a good team and gave us a scare tonight. Even though we got the win, getting taken to the limit tonight will be good for our development. We got exposed in some areas, and these are corrective mistakes I'm talking about. I'm excited to get a few more chances with these guys in the wrestling room before we let them go for break."
Honecker was pleased with the four Ephs who pinned their opponents tonight: "Richter, Rossetti, and Xing were dominant tonight, just like we expected them to be. These are high caliber guys turning in high caliber performances. It's exciting to see Tommy Goodwin joining that party tonight with a pin of his own."
Speaking on
Elias Chen who sealed the deal for his team tonight, Honecker shared, "Obviously the heavy lifter award tonight goes to Elias Angulo Chen. He had a big heart tonight in an evenly contested bout. Great to see him improve and grow as we go, and I'm glad when he had the chance to put the team on his back he came through for his boys. His daily effort is exceptional and the sky is the limit as he continues to learn how to execute in every position. What a stud."
The Ephs will have four weeks before they next compete on Saturday, January 8
th in the much-anticipated Williams Invitational. The meet will kick off at 10:00 am in historic Lasell Gymnasium.
