Eph Sports Video Feature: Glenn Boyer, Equipment Manager for Athletics

Glenn Boyer, the Equipment Manager for Athletics, has worked at Williams for 34 years in the three Eph equipment rooms: Cole Field House, Chandler Gym, and the Weston Field Athletic Complex.

Glenn and his staff wash, and repair uniforms and other equipment for the Ephs' 32 Varsity teams. In addition the equipment room staff also orders and processes new equipment for Eph teams and supply equipment for Eph P.E. classes and students using facilities within Chandler and Lasell gyms.

Glenn was interviewed for the story "The Forgotten Hero" by Tim Layden '78, which ran in the Nov. 7, 2011 issue of Sports Illustrated. Layden's story was named one of the 60 best Sports Illustrated stories in the magazine's first sixty years.

Layden's story revolved around a box in the Cole Field House equipment room that contained three #50 football jerseys. Extensive research showed that when former Eph football star Mike Reily '64 could no longer play football a coach and an equipment room person tucked away Reily's #50 jerseys in a Wilson football box and thus "retired the number" in a most quiet way. The number 50 has since been officially retired by Williams College in football.

For the past 18 years Glenn had the good fortune to work side by side with his father Al who recently retired.
