Having to work hard to compete for the Ephs is valued by van Eck who noted that even in squash where nine players compete in a match, the 10
th and 11
th ranked players on the roster can make the team better by pushing numbers 8 and 9 in the Eph lineup in practice.

Valuing all of his team experiences van Eck has also availed of the support of Eph squash team alums who were instrumental in preparing him for his first job out of Williams at Accenture, a New York tech company.
