Eph Women's Golf Wins 5th Consecutive NESCAC Title

COMPLETE RESULTS

SOUTH HADLEY, MASS. – Today marked the second and final day of the two-day NESCAC 2021 Women's Golf Championship that spanned two weeks. The morning at The Ledges Golf Club started cold with wild wind that made it hard to control the ball. Luckily, however, the sun slowly started to shine towards the middle of the round, allowing the Ephs to show off their skills and grind through the day.

After day one of NESCAC #1, the Ephs led Hamilton College by three strokes, with totals of 319 and 322 respectively. Today, the Ephs fired a 309 to take the title of this year's NESCAC series with a two-round total of 628, which was 21 shots ahead of runner-up Amherst.
Williams won its fifth straight NESCAC title and to date the Ephs are the only team to win the NESCAC title.

With the NESCAC title secured the Ephs have earned an automatic berth in the NCAA DIII Championship May 11-14 to be played in East Lansing, Michigan. In third place was Hamilton College at 654, in fourth was Middlebury with a 684, and in last was Wesleyan University with a two day totally of 832.

Eph sophomore Malini Rudra and junior Olivia White shared medalist honors today as both carded a 76. Rudra said of her round today, "I had a really steady round today - only made 4 bogeys and 14 pars. My iron game was a bit off but I was able to make some clutch up and downs. The conditions were a bit tough with the recent rain and a windy day but the team was really determined to perform better this time around and I'm so happy we executed. It has been a goal of mine to compete at nationals and I'm so grateful and excited we have the opportunity to compete in Michigan. The team has worked hard up until this point and it feels rewarding that we got this win. Knowing the team has come so close to clinch the national title in previous years makes me even more determined and excited to compete."

Rudra took home the medalist honors with a 78-76 for a two-day total of 154. Junior Olivia White also posted a 76 today, following her 80 in the first round. Eph freshman Tianyi Zhuang shot a 77 today to follow her 81 round last weekend. Freshman Melinda Yuan posted an 80 today to fire a 160 for the two days. Senior Holly Davenport followed up her 90 last weekend with an 82 today.

"The team did a great job sticking to the game plan today, keeping the ball in play, and hitting some great shots when it really mattered," noted Eph head coach Tomas Adalsteinsson. "I was so impressed with how determined they were, and our whole team set the tone at practices during the week. This NESCAC Championship title was a true team effort! These ladies have done so well to keep improving their golf game while performing with excellence in their classes as well. As a coach, I couldn't ask for more.
Tomorrow the Ephs will host Amherst and Hamilton at Waubeeka Golf Links in Williamstown in the Northeast Tri-Match.
