Women's Soccer Posts First win of the Season Downing Castleton State 2-0 on the Road

Castleton, Vt. — The Williams women's soccer (1-1-1) earned their first win this afternoon on the road against the Castleton State University Spartans (2-1-1). In the 34th minute, midfielder Mikayla Kappes '21 stepped up to take a corner and curved the ball past the Castleton keeper, putting the Ephs up 1-0.

Williams kept their momentum going as the first half came to a close. With three minutes to l;eft in the hal;f, Parket Harnett '25 forced a Spartan turnover in the 18-yard box. Capitalizing on the opportunity, Harnett gained control of the loose ball and volleyed it into the back of the net. These were two of many goal-scoring chances the Ephs created in the first half, finishing with ten shots and five corners.

"Really happy to see us stay disciplined and do what works for us," said Eph head coach Sarah Raymond. "We played with confidence, moved off the ball for each other, possessed, and created some good chances."

Williams continued to keep the majority of possession in the second half but weren't able to convert. Among the many opportunities were six free-kicks and one corner.

Defensively, the Ephs kept the Spartans to only one shot on goal. Goalkeepers Leyla Kamshad '23 and Olivia Dabinett '25 rounded out their first game on the field this season combining on a shutout.

"Happy for our first team win with a lot of people contributing on the field," added Raymond. "I'm excited to see us continue to grow offensively so that we can create even better chances at the end of some terrific play. We're really excited to be at home back on Cole Field next weekend."

Next weekend, the Ephs have their first home doubleheader, facing Little Three rival Wesleyan on Saturday at noon and Springfield College on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
