WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. -- "It is my pleasure to announce that
Steffen Siebert has accepted the position of Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Head Men's Soccer Coach," Williams Athletic Director
Lisa Melendy announced. "Stef comes to Williams with extensive coaching experience at many levels, including last year as the interim coach. The committee was impressed with his knowledge of the game of soccer and his work in both Sports Psychology and Sport Leadership. I believe the team is in very capable hands as we look toward the future. I would like to thank the members of the search committee for their thoughtful engagement and work in this process:
Alix Barrale,
Dan Greenberg,
Christi Kelsey,
Marc Mandel, and
Sarah Raymond."
"I would like to personally thank
Lisa Melendy, the search committee, and the student athletes for entrusting me with the head coaching position of one of the most prestigious academic and athletic programs in the country," Siebert said. "I am looking forward to building on the legacy that coach
Mike Russo, coach
Erin Sullivan, and all the amazing student-athletes have established."
Siebert arrived in Williamstown with a wealth of coaching experience that included stints as an MLS assistant coach, college, and academy head coach. Siebert is the youngest USSF 'A' license instructor in the country and holds USSF 'A' and UEFA 'A' Licenses as well. Additionally he has earned a Master's degree in Sport Psychology and a Doctorate in Sport Leadership.
Siebert served as the interim head coach for the Ephs' fall 2021 season, arriving just two weeks prior to the start of competition. However, Siebert was able to build a strong foundation for the new era of the Williams College Men's Soccer during the season. Throughout his inaugural season, the Ephs beat several nationally ranked opponents, played one of the toughest schedules in all of DIII men's soccer, and qualified for post season play.
Siebert will be returning his entire Eph starting lineup this fall as only four members of the 2021 team are graduating. Returning Ephs include 2021 top scorer
Nathan Song (7g, 1a) who registered 15 points, All-Region defender
Will Felitto, and top playmaker
Henry Osborn who assisted on a team high 5 goals. Returning netminder
Ben Diffley fashioned a 0.91 goals against average in 12 contests.
