Box Score WILLIAMSTOWN, MA --Â The Williams College Ephs (0-2-0, 0-2-0 NESCAC) fell to the Colby College Mules (2-0-0, 2-0-0 NESCAC) by a final score of 5-2 today at Lansing Chapman Rink.
Colby opened the scoring, with Michael McEachern finding space to shoot, finishing top right, with the assist credited to Max O'Brien.
Sean Clarke equalized at 10:44, off of a beautiful assist from Jamie Cates and Faisal Al-Saif, gracefully slotting it in behind the goalie.Â
Carter Breitenfeldt received a five minute penalty for roughing, giving Williams the power play opportunity. The Ephs were able to capitalize, and took their first lead of the game at 15:46 through the free-scoring Mac Carso, who was assisted by Jared Lambright.Â
The Ephs continued to pile on the pressure, and Jacob Eckerle almost doubled the lead shortly after, producing a nice shot on target that was ultimately saved.Â
Right after a foul against Sean Clarke that resulted in a five minute penalty for the Mules, Cal Sanquist made a great save to deny an equalizer off a fast break opportunity.
The second period kicked off with a double power play for the Ephs, as a second penalty for the Mules reduced them to four men on the ice. Sean Clarke picked up a penalty of his own, and was handed a two minute penalty, but the Ephs still used the extra man to pepper the Mules' goal with shots, coming close to converting on multiple occasions. The Mules were able to weather the storm, though, and after a fracas in front of Williams' net, Jack Sullivan was able to finish through the five hole, and the Mules tied it up 2-2, 2:47 into the second.
The Mules were able to restore their advantage, 3-2, at 13:35, through Nick Stapleton's power play goal.Â
The Mules doubled their lead at 12:23 in the third period, when Ryan Doolin weaved through the defense, beating at least three, before finishing into the roof of the right side of the net. Five minutes later, it was 5-2, as Alex Bourhas finished off a Doolin assist to put the game out of reach.
The Mules' Andy Beran finished with 32 saves on a 94.1% save percentage, while Cal Sandquist stopped 22 at a 80.8% save rate.
The Ephs fall to 0-2, and will have their next opportunity to win next Saturday, at home against Babson.
