HANOVER, NH — Four members of the Williams Women's Track and Field team traveled to Dartmouth College Friday to compete in the pentathlon at the Dartmouth December Invite. In competition, the Ephs ran, jumped and threw against athletes from Dartmouth College. The women had strong performances throughout the day of competition, making for an exciting season-opener for the pentathletes.
Sophomore
Hayden Colfax had many impressive marks, ultimately taking second-place overall in the pentathlon. Her total score of 3077 points qualifies her for DIII New Englands. Colfax finished 2nd in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.38, and tied for 2nd in the high jump with a personal record jump of 1.57m. She achieved DIII New England's qualifying marks in both of these individual events. Turning to the throws, Colfax placed 5th in the shot put, throwing 9.09m. To finish off the day, she won the long jump with a mark of 5.02m and placed 5th in the 800m, running 2:45.68.
Next up, in her first collegiate pentathlon, freshman
Livi Mazerolle placed 3rd and achieved personal records in four events. She earned a total of 2955 points, making her a DIII New England's qualifier in the pentathlon. In the first event of the day, the 60-meter hurdles, Mazerolle placed 4th and crossed the finish line in 10.44. She had an outstanding performance in the high jump, where she won the event with a DIII New England's qualifying mark of 1.60m. Mazerolle continued her success in the shot put where she came 4th with a throw of 9.36m, and in the long jump where she placed 3rd, jumping 4.88m. In the 800m, the final race of the day, she finished 4th in a time of 2:40.11.
Senior captain
Hannah Brown took 4th overall with a total score of 2826 points and multiple personal bests. In the 60m hurdles, she finished 3rd in 10.09 seconds for a new personal best. In the high jump, Brown took 4th with a mark of 1.54m. Brown had an incredible shot put performance, with all three of her attempts exceeding her prior personal best. Her best mark and new personal record of 9.48m secured her third place in the event. Brown took 4th in the long jump with a mark of 4.75m. She then took 6th in the 800m with a personal record of 2:48.63 to close out a successful day.
First year
Greta Vaughn also competed in her first collegiate pentathlon at Dartmouth, finishing in 6th with a total of 2446 points. Vaughn opened the day with a 6th place finish in the 60m hurdles for a time of 11.48 seconds. Next, she took 5th in the high jump with a mark of 1.39m. In the shot put, Vaughn placed 6th with a throw of 8.55m. She moved on to place 6th in the long jump with her mark of 4.20m. Vaughn closed the day with an impressive 800m race. Her quick time of 2:29.95 won the event. All of Vaughn's marks for the day were collegiate bests.
Overall, the pentathletes had a strong opening competition day at Dartmouth. The Ephs look forward to getting back on the track on January 23rd when they travel to Wesleyan University for the Little Three Meet.
