New Haven, CT. – Yesterday, the purple cows traveled to New Haven to face the #4 men's squash team Yale University. Every member of the team put up a good fight, but they ultimately fell 9-0 against a talented opponent. Although there were many close games and rallies where it felt like the Ephs had the upper hand, Head Coach
Zafi Levy said it best that the "quality of Yale's drop shots" was what made the difference.
Up first for the Ephs in the five-court system was
Andrew Minnis, who managed to make it tight in the last two games, but ultimately lost 3-0. Up next at the four seed was
Asher Leavy, who also had some close games against a skilled player before losing 3-0. First year
Alex-Akbari held on to the longest match title of the day title as he battled up and down the backhand, before losing 3-0 in 35 minutes. And last up for the Ephs in the first round of matches was
Charles Merrill and
Gabriel Ramirez, who both lost 3-0 against strong opponents.
Up first in the second round of matches for Williams was our Co-Captain
Will Evans, who rallied well against the Yale number one but ultimately fell 3-0. Both
Jack Lee and
John Nicholson had some close games against their opponents before falling 3-0. And to end the day,
Andrew Lee and
Rafay Syed played some strong squash, both nearly taking their opponents to 10-10 but just falling short in a well fought 3 games.
Despite the score, the Ephs played with heart and battled until the last point up and down the ladder. They look forward to their next match this Sunday at MIT.
