BOSTON, MASS. —The Williams Women's Track and Field team traveled to Boston University today for their first meet of the indoor season: the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. The competition included teams from all three NCAA divisions, including Boston University, University of Maine, and Tufts University. After their productive training season this fall, the Ephs were excited to hit the track. Overall, the team had a successful indoor season debut with many personal bests, DIII New England qualifications, and top 10 finishes.Â
The Ephs kicked off the day with impressive marks in the field events. In the high jump, all three Williams women finished in the top 10. In their collegiate-openers, Amelie Jamanka '26 and Livi Mazerolle '26 took 8th and 9th, respectively, with marks of 1.55m. Captain Hannah Brown '23 took 10th with a mark of 1.55m, a collegiate personal best. The Ephs had strong performances in the pole vault, too. Ellie Fitzgerald '26 took 2nd overall in her first college competition. Her 3.40m mark qualifies her for DIII New England's. Jae Yu '25 took 4th with 3.25m, making her another DIII New England's qualifier in the pole vault. With a mark of 2.95m, Poppy Miller '25 took 7th. In the long jump, former DIII New England's outdoor champion Morgan Nasir '25 won the event. Her impressive jump of 5.64m makes her an automatic qualifier for indoor DIII New England's this year. Captain Kristen Chou '23 also competed in the long jump, taking 7th with her jump of 5.36m. Chou also qualified for DIII New England's. In her first time competing in the weight throw, Emma Miller '26 placed 9th, throwing 11.17m.
The first running event on the track was the 60m hurdles prelims. Ziann Facey '26 had a strong collegiate-opener, finishing in 9th place in the prelims to secure a spot in the finals later in the day. Facey beat her preliminary time of 9.45 seconds in the finals where she finished 7th overall in 9.41 seconds, making her a DIII New England's qualifier. Hayden Colfax '25 took 10th in the 60m hurdles prelims with her mark of 9.48 seconds, also qualifying for DIII New England's. The 400m dash featured many impressive performances by the Ephs. Camryn Taylor '24 won the event in 58.39 seconds and qualified for DIII New England's. Close behind, Malia Klein '25 took 2nd with a personal best of 59.97 seconds, also qualifying for DIII New England's. In another top 10 finish, Daisy Valle '25 placed 4th with her time of 63.31 seconds. In the 200m dash, Malia Klein '25 led the Ephs with her 6th place finish in 26.32 seconds. Captain Kristen Chou '23 placed 11th in 26.88 seconds. Both Klein and Chou qualified for DIII New England's in this event. The Ephs placed 6th overall in the 1600m relay with a time of 4:13.68. The team was composed of Elsa Martin '25, Hannah Brown '23, Daisy Valle '25, and Livi Mazerolle '26.Â
Several athletes represented Williams in the longer distances as well. Junior Lucy Gagnon placed 17th in the mile with a personal best time of 5:05.98, followed by sophomore Nora Johnson who finished 19th in a personal best time of 5:12.52. Both qualified for DIII New England's with these performances. Sophomore Elsa Martin achieved a personal best time of 1:42.06 in the 600m, placing 9th and qualifying for DIII New England's. Three Ephs competed in the 3000 run. Junior Molly Fitzgibbons placed 52nd with a personal best time of 9:59.00, and sophomore Grace Kaercher placed 74th in 10:37.06. Both ran impressive races and qualified for DIII New England's. Senior captain Lilly Wells placed 75th with a time of 10:42.09 in her first time running the event. The final race of the day was the extremely competitive 5000 run. Ella Ball '25 placed 89th in this event, crossing the line in a speedy personal best time of 17:00.82. Junior Genna Girard and freshman Kate Swann also had great performances, finishing in 95th and 120th, respectively. Girard ran a personal best time of 17:00.82 and Swann ran 18:33.12. All three 5000 run competitors qualified for DIII New England's during this meet.
The Ephs definitely showed up to compete this Saturday and set the mark for what looks to be a promising season. They are excited to get back on the track at the Little Three Meet at Wesleyan University on January 14th where they will continue striving for high level results.
