TROY, NY – In a battle of nationally ranked teams Williams (#17) pinned the first loss of the season on RPI (#15) by opening up an 8-0 lead over the Engineers. With the win the Ephs improve to 3-2 and RPI is now 7-1.
The Ephs held RPI scoreless in the first half and for nearly 10 minutes of the third period until the engineers''s Rhys Zoldi scored off a pass from Luke Murphy with 5:29 left in the third quarter. By then Williams had notched 8 goals.
Tim Saffold opened the scoring in the game recording the lone goal of the first quarter with 5:06 showing on the clock. Saffold converted off a feed from
Jake Haase.
Williams quickly added to their lead when
Jesse Shapiro scored unassisted just under a minute into the second quarter. The lead grew to 3-0 on a
Harrison Cross unassisted tally at 10:54. Haase then recorded his second assist when he passed to
Pearse Glavin at 9:06. Haase closed out the scoring in the first half when he notched an unassisted goal with just over a minute remaining in the first half.
The 5-0 halftime Eph lead grew to 6-0 just 37 seconds into the third quarter when
Pearse Glavin netted an unassisted goal. The seventh and eighth consecutive Eph goals came at 12:39 when
Spencer Goodbar scored unassisted and Goodbar again scored at 7:07 unassisted putting Williams on top 8-0.
RPI's first goal by Luke Murphy was answered by the Ephs'
Calvin Caputo with
Jake Haase assisting with just under two minutes left in the third quarter and Williams owned a 9-2 lead at the end of the quarter.
Cal Ewanich stretched the Eph lead to 10-2 with an unassisted tally with just over 13 minutes remaining.
Ian Di Pietro with an assist from
Jake Haase tallied the Ephs' 11
th goal as they took advantage of a man-up situation.
Jesse Shapiro scored the Ephs' 12 goal when he scored unassisted also in a man-up advantage.
The RPI offense came to life late registering six goals over the final five minutes, but it was too little too late for the Engineers who suffered their first loss of the season.

Matt Freitas stopped 13 RPI shots and allowed nine goals.
Noah Dewbrey won 13 of 21 faceoffs. Williams collected 44 ground balls to RPI's 33.

Matt Freitas had a strong game in goal against a good offensive team," said Eph head coach

Noah Dewbrey was solid on the faceoffs again and I thought
Spencer Goodbar created sone good offensive opportunities with his dodging and shooting. It was a good win for us."
Next up for the Ephs is a home NESCAC encounter with Connecticut College Saturday on Farley-Lamb Field at 1 PM.
