Coach's Take: "Neither of our pitchers were at their best today, but they just kept battling and found their stuff along the way. We've got a great offense in our dugout, and I knew we were going to score some runs. The NESCAC's really competitive – everybody's beating everybody else – so it was really important to get this win." –

How it Happened
- After Wesleyan took an early 1-0 lead on a bases-loaded walk by right fielder Alexis Campbell in the first inning of Game 1, the Ephs struck back in the third. With left fielder Tayler Wise '24 on third and designated player Mara Kipnis '22 on first, Kipnis stole second base, prompting a snap throw to third by Wesleyan catcher Sophia Sciarappa that sailed into left field, allowing both Wise and Kipnis to score to give the Ephs a 2-1 lead.
- Wesleyan pitcher Isabella Secaira-Cotto tied the game with a double in the fifth, but in the bottom of the seventh, with runners on second and third and two out, McGuigan a hard ground ball that glanced off of Secaira-Cotto's glove and trickled into the middle of the infield for a walk-off base hit.
- Wesleyan once again scored one run but left the bases loaded in the first inning of Game 2. A two-run single by second baseman Rachel Neugart '22 made it 2-1 Ephs in the second.
- Wesleyan took a 3-2 lead on a double to right-center field by designated player Darlene de La Cruz in the top of the third, but the Ephs rallied in the bottom of the inning. An RBI force out by McGuigan tied it, and a bases-loaded single by outfielder Alyana Granados '23 made it 4-3 Ephs. McGuigan added two insurance runs with a two-out, two-run single to right in the bottom of the fourth.
Inside the Box Score
- Though Eph pitcher Elyse Chan '25 allowed five Wesleyan runners to reach base – on three walks, one hit, and her own throwing error – she escaped the inning having given up just one run and settled down from there. She pitched yet another complete game, giving up six hits and four walks but striking out nine Cardinals.
- The Ephs' Game 1 victory was their first walk-off win of the season.
- McGuigan tallied two hits and a team-leading four RBIs – two of which tied or won the game – over the course of the two games.
Next Up for the Ephs
- Tomorrow, the Ephs will finish up their three-game series against Wesleyan. Game 2 is scheduled to resume at 9:30AM, and Game 3 will begin shortly after the end of Game 2.
