Ramos, Burger-Moore Propel Ephs to 6-5, Walk-Off Win Over Hamilton

Kris Herman earns 800th win as DIII head coach; Ephs clinch NESCAC Tournament berth

Box Score Location: Williamstown, MA
Records: Williams 21-13, Hamilton 16-12

The Short Story: The Ephs came back from an early 4-1 deficit, tying the game in the sixth inning on a home run by Bailey Burger-Moore '23. After Hamilton pitcher/left fielder Natalie Beebe hit an RBI double to left-center to put Hamilton back up in the seventh, Ramos hit a single to tie it and Burger-Moore played hero once again with a walk-off single on a ground ball to right field. Williams clinched a spot in the NESCAC tournament, and eliminated Hamilton from tournament play, with the win.

Coach's Take: "We were playing a little bit tight, but we just battled. Come-from-behind and walk-off wins are always good. We've got a lot of really good hitters, especially in the middle of the lineup, and we want to keep giving them chances to get a good swing on the ball." – Kris Herman

How it Happened
  • The Continentals got on the board first with an RBI single by first baseman Shelby McVey, but the Ephs struck back with a home run from catcher Mara Kipnis '22 – her team-leading ninth of the season.
  • A solo home run by Hamilton shortstop Charlie Quinn and an RBI single to right center fielder Kiana Arcayena made it 3-1 in the second. Quinn batted home another run in the third inning with a two-out single to right to make it 4-1.
  • In the fifth, Ramos put the Ephs right back in the game with a two-run home run to left-center field. The next inning, Burger-Moore tied it.
  • After Hamilton retook the lead, Wise was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the inning and advanced to second on a passed ball. Following Ramos' single, Kipnis walked to set the Ephs up with first and second and nobody out. Designated player Sydney Fleming '25 attempted to bunt the runners over, but the Continentals managed to get the force out at third. Burger-Moore's walk-off single, though, made the unsuccessful bunt a moot point.
Inside the Box Score
  • Four of the Continentals' five runs were scored with two outs, including the go-ahead double by Beebe in the seventh.
  • Each of the Ephs' first four runs came via the home run, but both of their runs in the seventh-inning rally came on singles.
  • Despite allowing 11 hits and two walks, pitcher Elyse Chan '25 pitched a complete game, settling down after allowing four runs in the first three innings.
  • Burger-Moore's game-tying home run in the sixth was her first long ball of the season.
Next Up for the Ephs
  • Tomorrow, the Ephs will finish their regular season with a doubleheader rematch against the Continentals.
