Williamstown, MA – An early 3-0 lead by the Tufts College Jumbos (7-2, 4-1) would prove costly for the Williams College Ephs (5-4, 4-2) as they were not able to overcome the deficit, falling 19-10.
Williams would bounce back after the early goals with a quick strike from the faceoff man
Noah Dewbrey. The sophomore would cleanly push the ball forward and surge towards the goal where he buried from the slot, unassisted. The Ephs would strike again, freshly off a man-up advantage, when a pass from X by
Jake Haase would find
Jesse Shapiro who finished emphatically.
The Ephs weren't done, as they would bring it within one on a goal from
Calvin Caputo just 30 seconds later, making it 4-3 Jumbos. The Williams roll continued as they would tie the game up off a quick strike from
Bjorn Davidson. The Jumbos responded sharply with two of their own in succession, before
Spencer Goodbar would fire one home from range to bring the deficit to one before the end of the first quarter. The Ephs would add on one more goal in the second quarter off the stick of
Calvin Caputo.
Despite a strong effort in goal from
Will Bock who made some key saves throughout the quarter, the Jumbos would tally six goals to end the half ahead, 12-6.
The Jumbos would come out strong in the third, tallying three early to extend their advantage. The Ephs would not go down quietly, however, as Haase would find
Harrison Cross who finished low on the Tufts netminder. Shortly after, a brave solo run would be slotted home on a diving shot from
Tim Saffold. Haase would add two late in the quarter, bringing his total to 21 on the year.
After the game, Coach
George McCormack spoke about the loss and what it means to the team moving forward. "I think we have a really good team…if anything we really have to maintain our focus so that we can execute consistently over four quarters". The Ephs will look to bounce back at home against Babson College on Saturday.
