Chase Cohen NESCAC Player of the Year & Matt Kandel NESCAC Rookie of the Year

HADLEY, MASS. – The NESCAC Men's Tennis awards were announced on Thursday. Williams junior Chase Cohen was named the NESCAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year, fellow Eph Matt Kandel garnered NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors.

Cohen wins the NESCAC Player of the Year honor after being named the NESCAC Rookie of the Year in 2021. He is the second player in the award's history to be named the Rookie of the Year one season and Player of the Year the next. Cohen is the seventh Eph to garner the Player of the Year honor, a list that includes his head coach Dan Greenberg. Cohen helped Williams earn the No. 3 seed in the NESCAC Men's Tennis Championship and reach the semifinals. He owns a 16-6 record at No. 1 singles and is 13-4 at No. 1 doubles this season.

Kandel, who is the fourth Eph to earn NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors, is 13-4 and enters the NCAA Tournament having won five straight matches at No. 2 singles. Kandel is also 13-4 playing with Cohen at No. 1 doubles in his first season at Williams.

"Cohen and Kandel have been awesome for us at the top of the lineup in singles and doubles," noted Eph head coach Dan Greenberg. "They have completely different styles but have the same goals of being the best in D3 and working intensely to get there. They've definitely pushed their teammates and me as a coach, and I think they've set a great example of how to make the most of this experience."

"They are as successful in school as they are on court and represent Williams well," Greenberg added. "If Cohen is any example, Rookie of the Year was only the first step in what's becoming a great college career, as it will be for Kandel. I couldn't be more excited to coach these guys and their teammates for the next few weeks of NCAAs and of course the next few years."
