Jumbos Down The Ephs, 3-2 In OT

WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. - Tufts' Kylie Rosenquest scores the winning goal 6:12 into overtime to give Tufts (5-0, 3-0 NESCAC) the 3-2 win over a fighting Williams (3-2, 0-2 NESCAC) team.

The Ephs high press from the start rewarded them with a penalty corner 1:17 into the game. The initial shot from senior Catherine Torres was blocked but first year Pilar Torres was there to knock it down and put it past the goalkeeper to give the Ephs an early 1-0 lead.

6:59 into the game, an assist from senior Kelly McCarthy finds first year Kiki Higgins who puts it past the goalkeeper, giving the Ephs a 2-0 lead. Senior goalkeeper Carson Stephenson made a crucial save to deny the Jumbos a goal and maintain the 2-0 at halftime.

The Jumbos came into the third quarter with a spark, managing to get a goal back from a play that started on the right hand side. Tufts' Mia D'Angelo received a pass from Kylie Rosenquest to make it 2-1 a minute into the third quarter.

With 8:06 left in the game to go, Tufts' Andrea DelGiudice finds herself shooting at goal and the ball skips past the cluster of players to make it 2-2. With 20 seconds to go in regular time, Williams junior goalkeeper Gates Tenerowicz made an important save to deny Tufts a third goal and to take the game into overtime.

At the 61:10 mark, Ephs goalie Carson Stephenson denies Tufts' Kylie Rosenquest a goal and prevents the game from ending. The Jumbos were awarded a penalty corner at the 66:12 mark. A pass from Tufts' Lainie Pearson finds Rosenquest who puts the ball in the back of the net and hands the Ephs a heartbreaking loss in overtime.

Head Coach Alix Barrale reflects on the tough loss, "I mean obviously I think it was a great response to yesterday. I thought we played exceptionally well and it's hard to be disappointed in that way. It's hard against a team that is so highly ranked and I think that we just had a little bit of fatigue at the end and they capitalized on that. But again so proud of the effort and what we accomplished out there. I think that was a great response to yesterday."

The Ephs look to get back on a winning track when they take on Colby College on Saturday, September 24th at 12:00 PM in Waterville, Maine.
