EPHS DEFEAT THE BOBCATS 2-0

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- Williams College (2-2) scored two goals late in the second half to register a 2-0 win over Bates College (2-2) for their first home win of the season.

The Ephs played a great game, maintaining possession for the majority of the first half. A corner kick by junior Sam Phan at 71:54 was sent back to Phan by senior Maria Chapman for the assist. Phan put it right past the Bates goalie for the first score of the game. The second goal came in the last two minutes of play, senior Tess Belnap belting the ball deep from the right side.

Both sides played a strong and physical game, locating their passes well and keeping the pressure on the opposing defenses. Williams led the game in shots taken, 20 to Bates' 5. Ephs offense was lively right out the gate, with junior Claire Tolliver passing the goalie and taking a clear shot in the first 2 min that hit the right post and bounced out. Tolliver had several more shots during the game, including a powerful kick in the 12th minute that Bates goalie Samantha Bunar punched up and out of bounds.

Bates stayed strong until the end but was unable to come back. Ephs coach Sarah Raymond commented after the game, "I'm really happy for my team, we've been working hard at a lot of different things, and they showed up today. The next step is just believing in ourselves and putting them in the back of the net.

Williams continues their home weekend tomorrow against Tufts at 12:00pm.
