EPHS TRIUMPH OVER TUFTS 1-0

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Williams College (3-2) kept Tufts University (4-1) off the scoreboard to secure their second win of the weekend, final score 1-0.

The game started off strong, with an attempted shot from both teams in the first two minutes. With 10 total shots on goal by Tufts, senior Leyla Kamshad stayed incredibly solid throughout the game. In the 54th minute Tufts had a compact shot which Kamshad dove cleanly to block, a big save for the Ephs. Soon after in the 57th Kamshad had a beautiful save of a hard-hit ball to the top left corner.

With 9 minutes left in the first half, a corner kick resulted in a goal by sophomore Blakeley Buckingham, assisted by a header from sophomore Tori Huang. The Ephs bounded off this momentum, dealing smart passes and staying on the Jumbos heels, holding them off.

Williams defense did not let up, keeping the pressure on Tufts throughout the game. Sophomore Kelly Beale and first year Ansley Burns stayed aggressive at the back of the field, preventing Tufts from maintaining control on their runs.

The Ephs played a fantastic game, as said by coach Raymond; "I am so proud of my team today. They battled and hustled every minute for each other to win against a very talented and persistent Tufts. Players were outstanding all over the field, but our senior keeper, Leyla Kamshad, showed so much poise and ability in what she did today. It's a big win for us and one that feels really deserved after a lot of heartbreak over the last year. We're excited to keep moving forward and continuing to improve before our next games."

Williams faces Colby College and Bowdoin College next weekend in Maine, at 11:00am and 2:00pm respectively.
