WATERVILLE, MAINE – Williams (4-2, NESCAC 3-1) broke the tie late in the second half to beat Colby College (3-3, NESCAC 0-3).
Colby scored the first goal of the game 7 minutes in, sending a ball to the right side of the net just past Ephs senior goalie
Leyla Kamshad. Williams responded at the 16-minute mark, junior
Claire Tolliver keeping control of the ball against Colby defense and sliding to kick it in through Mules goalie Emily McMaster. The game remained tied until the 85
th minute when sophomore
Tori Huang sent the ball over the Mules goalie to senior
Emma Lynch, who finished the play for the Ephs' second goal.
The Ephs defense and offense both did a great job of keeping pressure on Colby after tying the game, keeping the ball in the middle of the field and minimizing any Mules drives. Sophomore Blakely Buckingham showed fantastic footwork today and produced several offensive drives for Williams. From Coach Raymond after the game, "I was very proud of our team today after a slow start, settling into what works for us, not panicking and finding a way to win. It's a big step forward and showed growth from our previous two games where we went down by a goal. It was a total team effort and players stepped up to contribute wherever they were asked to play. We are excited to recover and get ready for a big game against Bowdoin tomorrow."
Williams College takes on Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine tomorrow at 2:00pm.
