EPHS SHUTOUT THE POLAR BEARS

Box Score BRUNSWICK, MAINE – Williams College (5-2, NESCAC 4-1) kept Bowdoin College (6-2, NESCAC 2-2) off the scoreboard to end their weekend in Maine with a 1-0 win.

The single score of the game came from sophomore Blakeley Buckingham in the 58th minute, jumping on a beautifully centered pass from senior Emma Lynch and sending it into the back right corner of the goal. The Ephs had 10 total shots, 6 on goal, while Bowdoin had 13 total shots with 2 on goal.

A vibrant first half, the Ephs kept majority possession and used their incredible speed to maintain heavy pressure on the Bowdoin offense. In the first minute, junior Shae Rashoff took a nice shot from the edge of the box that Bowdoin goalie Alex Arndt punched out of play. Senior Maria Chapman and first year Ansley Burns stayed hot on the defensive backfield, beating Bowdoin offense to the ball and getting it back to the Ephs offense quickly.

Williams kept control in the second half as well, looking for every opportunity to steal the ball. Heavy defensive pressure limited Bowdoin advances, and in the 46th minute a long shot was snagged by senior keeper Leyla Kamshad who came out into the storm of players to grab it.

After the goal by Buckingham, Bowdoin attempted to even the score but was unable to get past the Ephs defense. With two minutes remaining in the game, Bowdoin took a shot from deep left side, Kamshad diving on it for a clutch save. The Polar Bears kept fighting, a long pass from the right corner headed just wide, ending the game at 1-0.

Ephs Coach Sarah Raymond after the game; "I couldn't be prouder of my team today. They fought hard all game and withstood some great attacks from a very talented Bowdoin team. So many great performances all over the field but I have to shout-out our tireless midfielders, Jaquelin Nordhoff and Tori Huang. Their work ethic, ability and effectiveness are what makes this team tikc in many respects. A fantastic play by Emma Lynch to find Blakeley Buckingham who was so composed with her finish.  It is tough to get two results from a long road trip but to the team's credit, we remained focused to do that. Very proud and excited for what's to come."

Williams will return to Massachusetts to play at Springfield College this Wednesday at 7:00pm.
