Ephs Down Bates 8-1

LEWISTON, ME – To kick off their final travel weekend of the regular season, the Williams women's squash team took on the Bates Bobcats. After a few unsatisfying wins and a week of intense training, the Ephs were ready to step on court with enthusiasm and intensity. They did just that and defeated Bates 8-1.

The first round of matches, played by #2 Quan Ng, #4 Amanda Solecki, and #7 Roshni Pal, started a wave of electricity that carried through the rest of night. Pal put the first point on the board with an efficient victory over her opponent. Solecki quickly followed with another 3-0 victory thanks to her strong volleys and straight lines. Ng faced up against a seemingly even-matched Bobcat opponent but instantly took control of the match winning games 1 and 2. After dropping the third 11-9, Ng stayed focused and mixed up the pace to win the fourth 11-9.

With the Ephs up 3-0, #3 Mira Kamat, #6 Nora Brant, #9 Nikita Srivastava stepped on court with positive energy. This energy carried Brant and Srivastava to find good length, move well, and cut the ball off. They both won 3-0. In her first top court appearance of the season, Kamat battled her Bobcat opponent. She played hard but ultimately fell 14-12 in the third.

The final matches of the evening were played by #1 Haley Jefferson, #5 Deena Iqbal, #8 Isabel Kelly. Kelly's match followed the same pattern as rest of her court. She swiftly took down her opponent only giving up a total of 5 points. On middle court, Iqbal fought for the seventh win of the day. She started off strong with great length and volleying to win the first game. She lost focus and dropped the second but returned to a simpler style of play to clinch the third and fourth. Finally, Jefferson rounded off the day with beautiful 3-0 win over a talented opponent.

After the match, co-captain Quan Ng commented "I was very proud of how focused the team was today to kick off the weekends' matches in Maine. My co-captain Niki and I want to keep the good momentum going and continuing our hard work on court"

The Ephs will rest up before they head over to face rival #16 Bowdoin at 3pm tomorrow.
