WATERVILLE, ME – Today the Ephs finished up their Maine college circuit with a solid 8-1 win over Colby. Coming fresh off of two wins against Bates and Bowdoin, Williams was looking to finish on a high note. Co-captain Will Evans said, "We came out strong and kept the momentum all throughout the match. Sundays are tough, but we stayed disciplined, and I couldn't be more proud of the guys."The Ephs have now won 6 matches in a row.
Starting off for the Ephs on the three-court system was co-captain Will Evans who stayed disciplined and absolutely dominated his opponent for a quick 3-0 win.
Asher Leavy started strong, winning the first 11-7. After deviating from his established game plan, he found himself down 2-1 in games. However, he managed to regroup, tighten up his squash, and won the next two games to take the match. The last man up for the Ephs in the first round was
Alex Akbari, who won the first 11-9. After losing a tight second game 11-9, he regrouped and began to play more attacking squash, leading him to a swift 3-1 victory.
In the second round of matches,
Andrew Minnis led the charge. The first game was extremely close, with Andrew managing to close it out 17-15 after two perfect backhand drops. From there on, it was smooth sailing and he won 3-0.
John Nicholson had the quickest match of the day, winning 3-0 in 21 minutes. And last on in the second round was
Pierce Henderson, who used his clever shot selection to win 3-0.
Leading the Ephs off in the third round of matches was co-captain
Udai Pal, who faced a talented opponent and fell 3-0.
Cameron Darnell took control of his court and won in a quick 3-0 match. And last on court for Williams was
Jack Lee. Jack won the first 11-4, but found himself down 7-3 in the second. However, he stuck to his game-plan and incredibly won the next 19 points in a row, taking the match 3-0.
Overall, it was a great weekend for Williams Men's squash. These wins were crucial toward their goal of a top ten finish this year. They look to keep the winning streak up for their first home match next week.
