Ephs Win Little Three Indoor Championship

MIDDLETOWN, CT— This weekend, the Williams women's track and field team traveled to Wesleyan University to compete in the annual Little Three's Championship against Amherst College and Wesleyan University. For the first time since the 2020 indoor season, this meet was scored. With impressive marks across different events, the Ephs took home the Little Three Championship.

Throws kicked off the meet, with shotput following weight throw. Emma Miller '26 took second place in weight throw with a mark of 10.87m. Also in the weight throw, Captain Hannah Brown '23 took fifth place with 8.64m and Captain Caroline Douglas '23 took sixth with 8.00m. Emma Miller '26 went on to have an outstanding shot put performance, taking first in the event overall with a new personal best. Her mark of 12.08m is #10 Williams All-Time and makes her a qualifier for DIII New Englands. Caroline Douglas '23 and Hannah Brown '23 also competed in the shot put, throwing 10.03m for 4th and 9.14m for 7th place, respectively. Douglas' shotput mark was a new personal best.

Jumpers and vaulters also began their competition early in the day. In the pole vault, Ellie Fitzgerald '26 won the event with a DIII New England's qualifying mark of 3.30m. Poppy Miller '25 took 4th in the pole vault with a mark of 3.15m, a seasonal best and DIII New England's qualifying mark. Also in the pole vault was Jae Yu '25, who took 8th with a mark of 3.00m. The Ephs continued their success in the jumping events. In the triple jump, Poppy Miller '25 jumped 9.38m for 3rd place. Close behind was Ellie Fitzgerald '26 who took 4th with her mark of 9.06m. In the long jump, captain Kristen Chou '23 took 2nd place with a DIII New England's qualifying jump of 5.27m. Also in the long jump was Gabi Rodriguez '26 who took 5th with a jump of 4.38m. Finally, the high jump was another source of success for the Ephs. Livi Mazerolle '26 won the event with an impressive jump of 1.63m. This mark is a new personal best, a DIII New England's qualifying mark, and #9 Williams All-Time. Close behind Mazerolle was Amelie Jamanka '26, who took third with a mark of 1.53m. 

The women's mile was the first running event of the day. Ella Ball '25 won the event in 5:10.69, a new personal best and a DIII New England's qualifying time. Right behind Ball, Genna Girard '24 took 2nd place with a DIII New England's qualifying time of 5:11.68. Also in the mile, Sammie Seamon '24 and Sophie Rosencrans '25 took 5th and 6th with 5:26.83 and 5:31.14, respectively. Other distance events went well for the Ephs, too. Charlotte Staudenmayer '25 placed 2nd in the 3k with a time of 10:37.09 to qualify for DIII New Englands. In the same event, Alex Bettez '23 took 4th in 10:42.62 and Fiona Picone '26 took 6th with 10:59.68. In the 1000m run, Lucy Gagnon '24 won the event with an impressive time of 2:58.21. Molly Fitzgibbons '24 also had a strong performance with her 2nd place finish in 3:01.11. Captain Lilly Wells also competed in the 1k, finishing in 3:08.04 for 4th place. All three Ephs in the 1k qualified for DIII New Englands. 

Sprinters and hurdlers had tremendous success on the track. In the 60m hurdles, Ziann Facey '26 placed 4th with a time of 9.65 seconds. Close behind was Camryn Taylor '24, who took 5th in 9.86 seconds. Livi Mazerolle '26 took 8th in the event with a time of 10.45 seconds. The Ephs continued their strong performances into the 400m dash. Camryn Taylor '24 won the event with a time of 60.46 to qualify for DIII New Englands. Also in the 400m, Daisy Valle '25 took 4th and Alisa Kanganis '25 took 6th with times of 1:02.56 and 1:07.33, respectively. The 400m was followed by the 600m, in which mid-distance Ephs had some strong races. Elsa Martin '25 placed 2nd with a time of 1:40.16 for a new personal best and DIII New England's qualification. Next, Katie Nath '23 took 4th overall with a time of 1:44.93. Close behind were Katerina Papachela '26 and Greta Vaughn '26, who ran 1:45.82 and 1:47.41 for 5th and 7th, respectively. Next on the track was the 60m dash. Captain Kiara Tan '23 won the event in 7.73 seconds, followed close behind by Rachel Arthur '25 who took 4th in 8.01 seconds. Both Ephs qualified for DIII New Englands. Also in the 60m were Ziann Facey '26 and Gabby Odoom '25, who ran 8.45 and 8.47 for 5th and 7th, respectively. In the 800m, the Ephs swept 1st and 2nd place. Blakeley Buckingham '25 won the event in 2:20.89, followed by Nora Johnson '25 in 2nd place with a time of 2:25.24. Both women were DIII New England's qualifiers. Grace Kaercher '25 also ran the 800m, finishing 4th in 2:28.14 to also qualify for DIII New Englands. The final individual sprint event was the 200m. Malia Klein '25 won the event in 27.01 seconds, followed by Kristen Chou '23 in 4th with a time of 27.53. Morgan Nasir '25 and Ziann Facey '26 took 6th and 7th in 27.93 and 28.34, respectively. Gabby Odoom '25 took 9th in 28.75. 

The Ephs finished up the running events with the 4x800 meter and the 4x400 meter relays. The 4x800 meter relay composed of Blakeley Buckingham '25, Nora Johnson '25, Grace Kaercher '25, and Lily Wells '23 won the event in 9:54.60. The 4x400 meter relay consisted of Ella Sukup '26, Camryn Taylor '24, Malia Klein '25, and Daisy Valle '25. For a new seasonal best, this relay team finished in 4:07.60. 

The Ephs plan to compete next at Middlebury's New England Small College Invite at the Track at New Balance in Boston, MA. The competition begins on Sunday, January 29th at 12pm.
