WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Today the purple cows solidly defeated their age old rival Amherst 8-1. Looking to keep their winning streak up from their last couple of matches, they each were determined to win up and down the ladder. Head Coach
Zafi Levy said "It was a great win for the boys over a strong Amherst team, with several key five game match wins."
Starting off the first round was
John Nicholson, who had three close games but managed to close each of them out to take the match. Next up was
Jack Lee, who utilized every corner of the court to solidly beat his opponent in three. And ending the first round for the Ephs was Co-Captain
Udai Pal, who played some brilliant squash to secure a 3-0 win and a 3-0 start for Williams.
Starting the second round was
Alex Akbari, who debut his straight drop shot which led him to a 3-0 win. Co-Captain Will Evans had a slow start, losing the first 11-9. However, he regrouped and handily won the next three games. And last one in the second round was
Pierce Henderson, who won the first five setter today. After a strong start, winning the first game 11-5, he lost the next two due to some tactical errors. He rethought his strategy and won the next two games to take the match.
And starting the last round was
Andrew Minnis, who had a long and intense five-game match, where his fitness ultimately allowed him to win out. After loosing the first two games, his physicality started to take over, and he managed to clinch the fifth 13-11. Next up was
Asher Leavy, who faced a talented opponent and lost 3-0. And last on for the Ephs was
Andrew Lee, who also had an incredible comeback win. Everyone gathered around court 3 to watch as he clawed his way back from 2-0 down to take the match 3-2.
It was a great win for the Ephs, and they look forward to tomorrow when they play Wesleyan.
