Annapolis, MD -- This afternoon, the Williams women's squash team continued their weekend in the Mid Atlantic in the program's first match against the Georgetown Hoyas. Coming off of last night's scrappy win, the Ephs were eager for another chance to show their skill. Thanks to wins at the top and bottom of the ladder, Williams prevailed 6-3.
The first round of matches was played by #2
Quan Ng, #4
Amanda Solecki, #6
Nora Brant, #7
Deena Iqbal, and #9
Nikita Srivastava. Ng dominated her opponent, swiftly beating her in straight games. On middle court, sophomores Solecki and Brant, battled the Hoyas. Despite some close games, lapses in focus led these Ephs to eventual losses. At the same time, bottom court had a strong showing. Iqbal swept her opponent 3-0 and Srivastava managed to make a 3-1 comeback after dropping the first game.
Next up were #1
Haley Jefferson, #3
Theresa Kay, #5
Mira Kamat, and #8
Isabel Kelly. Jefferson showed dominance against her Georgetown opponent and finished the match with a beautiful three-wall boast into the nick. Kay followed in her footsteps with another 3-0 victory. Kamat fell into a five-game battle with her opponent. She showed talent and skill taking the second and fourth games 11-3 but was out played in the fifth. Finally, Kelly, with strong backhand drops, won the sixth and final match for the Ephs today.
After the match, co-captain
Nikita Srivastava commented "After coming back from break and a long two days of travel, I'm proud of where our team is at. Despite lots of injuries and the time off, we're fighting on court and I see it in every point. I'm looking forward to continually getting stronger as we move through the rest of the season."
The Ephs will return to Pennsylvania tonight to challenge Dickinson in their final match of the weekend tomorrow at 12pm.
