MEDFORD, MA. - A late burst for the Jumbos saw the Williams College Ephs (7-4, 4-2 NESCAC) fall at Tufts University (10-3, 7-1 NESCAC) 2-1 in overtime.
In the final two minutes of the first half, sophomore Natalia Nolan crossed the ball into the circle where junior Meaghan Boehm ran onto it and struck it first time to give the Ephs a 1-0 lead. Eph senior goalie Gates Tenerowicz came up big in the first half as she saved all 3 shots she faced.
With 1:40 left in the game, the Jumbos struck back to level the game at 1-1 and force overtime. At the 62:42 mark, Claire Gavin was abl to get a shot past Tenerowicz to give the Jumbos the 2-1 win.
On the day, both teams struck 11 shots. Williams struck 5 on target while Tufts struck 8 on target. Tenerowicz made 6 crucial saves that kept the Ephs in the game.
"Disappointed with the outcome but extremely proud of our effort," stated Eph head coach Alix Barrale after the game. Gates had a great day in the cage. We came so close. Good news is we get to play again on Wednesday when we travel to Hamilton."
Williams will try to bounce back from the tough loss when they face Hamilton College. The Ephs are set to take on the Continentals on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 6:30 PM in Clinton, NY.
