WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. - A definitive second half propelled the Williams College Ephs (9-4, 6-2 NESCAC) to a 4-2 victory over the Trinity College Bantams (8-6, 3-6 NESCAC) on Senior Day on Williamson Field.
Before the game, the Williams College Field Hockey program celebrated and honored their seniors for their contributions over their years.
6:10 into the first quarter, sophomores Kiki Higgins and Pilar Torres linked up to provide the Ephs a 1-0 lead. Higgins inserted the corner to Torres who launched a strong shot into the bottom left corner. After the initial shot was blocked by Trinity's goalkeeper, sophomore Anna Miller struck it in the air to put the Ephs 2-0 up with 56 seconds left in the first quarter.
The Bantams got one back after Jackie Frank struck it bottom left at the 17:21 mark to make it 2-1 at halftime.
Frank got the Bantams leveled at 2-2, 4:07 into the third quarter. Senior Elizabeth Scarcella regained the lead for the Ephs at the 39:26 mark. Scarcella struck a hard low shot into the bottom right corner to make it 3-2.Â
Scarcella got her name on the scoresheet again for the final goal of the day after converting from the penalty kick spot. The Ephs came away with a 4-2 win. Senior Gates Tenerowicz was crucial in the cage, making 3 saves.
"Hard fought battle," stated Eph head coach Alix Barrale after the game. "I like how we battled back. We lost that lead and we refocused and I think we came out the way we needed to in the second half. We capitalized in the circle, we made better passes, better decisions, and Gates was lights out in the cage and really solid for us. It was a great win!"
Up next for Williams are No. 10 Bates College. The Ephs are set to travel to Lewiston, Maine, to take on the Bobcats tomorrow, Oct. 21 at 12 PM.Â
The Williams College Field Hockey program would like to thank seniors Elizabeth Scarcella, Molly Hellman, Payton Ahola, Jacqui Sandor, and Gates Tenerowicz for their contributions and dedication to the program throughout their collegiate careers!
