LEWISTON, MAINE - After taking the lead early in the first half, the Williams College Ephs (9-5, 6-3 NESCAC) were unable to retain it and ultimately fell 2-1 to the Bates College Bobcats (10-4, 6-3 NESCAC) in their penultimate regular season contest.
Sophomore Kiki Higgins opened up the scoring at the 10:34 mark after striking a shot too powerful for goalkeeper Kaili Jacobsen to keep out of the net. The Ephs went into the half time break with the 1-0 lead provided by Higgins.
The Ephs were out shot by the Bobcats 4-2 in the first half. Williams struck both their shots on target while the Bobcats struck one of their four shots on target. Eph senior goalkeeper Gates Tenerowicz made a crucial save on the shot she faced.
With 1:36 remaining in the third quarter, Anna Cote leveled it up for the Bobcats to head into the final 15 minutes tied at 1-1. Off a penalty corner, Cote again found the back of the net to put the Bobcats up 2-1 with 7:01 remaining in the game. The Ephs were unable to find an equalizer and ultimately fell 2-1.
On the day, the Ephs were out shot 10-5. Williams struck 3 on target and Bates struck 6 on target. Tenerowicz kept the Ephs in the game by making 4 saves.
