NEW LONDON, CT - - Two goals in each half propelled the Williams College Ephs (6-2, 3-1 NESCAC) to a 4-1 win over the Connecticut College Camels (2-8, 0-6 NESCAC) on Silfen Field.
At the 4:35 mark, senior Molly Hellman inserted a penalty corner to sophomore Pilar Torres, who struck a clean shot through the goalkeeper's legs to give the Ephs an early 1-0 lead.Â
The Camels struck back at the 23:16 mark, with their first shot of the game. Senior Gates Tenerowicz made the initial save, but Elektra Rodger was there for the rebound. Just three minutes later, first year Claire Colvin inserted a perfectly placed cross into the circle, where sophomore Natalia Nolan was able to pick it up and slot it into the back of the net. The Ephs went into the halftime break with a 2-1 lead.
Colvin herself got her name on the scoresheet 37:59 into the game. Colvin showed incredible stick skills as she picked up the ball and held it on her stick, drove into the circle, and nailed a shot into the bottom left corner to give the Ephs a 3-1 lead.
Nolan's second goal of the day at the 45:59 mark capped off a 4-1 away victory for the Ephs as they sit 2-0 on the road. On the day, the Ephs out shot the Camels 17-4. The Ephs struck 15 shots on target while the Camels struck all 4 on target. Tenerowiz made three saves to deny the Camels additional scoring opportunities.Â
"We battled a strong and aggressive Conn team," stated Eph head coach Alix Barrale after the win. "We had to work hard for every yard. Gates had to make a couple of difficult saves that kept Conn off the board. Overall, a great team effort and another NESCAC win."
Up next for the Ephs are the No. 6 Salisbury University Sea Gulls. The last matchup between the two came in last year's quarterfinals in the NCAA Tournament, where the Ephs pulled a 2-0 upset.Â
The contest is set to take place tomorrow, Oct. 8, at 12 PM at a neutral-site, Rowan University, in Glassboro, N.J.Â
