Ephs Fall to Salisbury Sea Gulls 1-0 in Tight Contest

Glassboro, N.J. - Arden Hunteman's goal in the fourth quarter was enough to hand the Williams College Ephs (6-3) their first loss on the road against the Salisbury University Sea Gulls (9-2). The Ephs fell 1-0 on neutral site Rowan University Sunday afternoon.

Both teams headed into the halftime break leveled at 0-0. The Ephs struck 3 shots with 2 on target. The Sea Gulls struck 6 shots with 3 on goal. Senior Gates Tenerowicz came up big with 3 saves in the first half.

The Sea Gulls took the lead early in the fourth quarter. Arden Hunteman fired one past Tenerowicz with 10:29 left in the game. Despite strong efforts, the Ephs were unable to find an equalizer and suffered their first loss on the road.

On the day, The Ephs and the Sea Gulls both struck a total of 14 shots, with both teams striking 10 on goal. Despite conceding a goal, Tenerowicz made 9 saves on the day to minimize scoring opportunities and kept the Ephs in a position to level.

"It was a very competitive game," stated Eph head coach Alix Barrale after the tight contest. "Salisbury lives up to their reputation as a national caliber team. While we didn't get the result we hoped for, we gained confidence as a team moving into the second half of our season. Gates was a beast today. She kept us in the game in the first half when they were peppering us with shots. We picked it up offensively in the second half, outshooting Salisbury 10-1 in the 3rd quarter. Their goalie was also outstanding, robbing us of shots we thought were going in. I believe this game can only help us grow and prepare us for the next 6 NESCAC games."

Up next for the Ephs is a home contest against Little Three rivals Wesleyan University. The contest is set to take place on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 12 PM on Williamson Field.
