Princeton, NJ -- For one of the last away matches of the semester, William Women's Squash traveled to Princeton, NJ to play the ranked No. 3 Tigers. After a well deserved break, the Ephs are ready to end the semester strong against a fierce opponent. Despite the 9-0 outcome in Princeton's favor, the Ephs fought hard and are ready to play even harder for their next matches.
On first today were
Melanie Wang (#2),
Sophia Koehler (#3),
Deena Iqbal (#6),
Nora Brant (#7), and
Annie Chang (#10). Wang had a slow start, but ended the match with a tight game in the third with dying length and a 3-0 result in her opponent's favor. These five Ephs put up a fight against the Tigers but each fell in three games.
Rachel Miller (#1),
Theresa Kay (#4),
Anika Kakarla (#5),
Naomi Jefferson-Sambanis (#8), and
Roshni Pal (#9) played the last round of matches at Princeton. Jefferson-Sambanis put up a strong fight especially towards the end of her match, nearly clinching the last game by playing deep and smart. Her opponent clinched the win in three straight games. The results were the same for the other Ephs in the second round as well.
After the match, Coach
Hesham Aly commented, "The women's team fought hard today, but we know what we need to work on for the next match and for the coming weeks as well. I am looking forward to playing UPenn tomorrow, many of our players had some close games and learned alot about what they need to improve upon."
The Ephs are looking forward to playing UPenn, ranked #5, on Sunday at noon tomorrow.
