WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. -- For one of the last home matches of the semester, Williams Women's Squash played the No. 8 ranked Yale Bulldogs. Before a well deserved break, the Ephs are ready to end the semester strong against a fierce opponent. Despite the 9-0 outcome in Yale's favor, the Ephs fought hard and are ready to play even harder for their last match of the semester tpmorrow vs. Columbia.
On first today were sophomores
Rachel Miller (#2),
Anika Kakarla (#5), and
Naomi Jefferson-Sambanis (#8). Jefferson-Sambanis had a slow start, but ended the match with two tight games with dying lengths and a 3-0 result in her opponent's favor. Kakarla gave her opponent a difficult time with high pressure and quick volleys, but eventually fell in four games.
Sophia Koehler (#3),
Deena Iqbal (#6), and
Roshni Pal (#9) played the second round of matches at the Simon Squash Center. Koehler put up a strong fight especially in her second game, nearly clinching the last game by playing lengths and moving efficiently. Her opponent clinched the win in three straight games. The results were the same for the sophomores Iqbal and Pal in the second round as well.
Melanie Wang (#1),
Theresa Kay (#4), and
Nora Brant (#7) played the last round of matches at Williams. Kay started off strong in the first game, cutting off volleys and staying forward. She eventually fell in three games to her Bulldog opponent. Brant and Wang ended their matches on a strong note, with long rallies and smart game play, but both lost in three as well.
After the match, Eph head coach
Hesham Aly commented, "The women's team played well today and has a lot of potential for tomorrow's match against Columbia. Many of these matches were close, and our players have the ability to do even better after making some adjustments."
The Ephs are looking forward to playing Columbia, ranked #10, on Saturday at 2pm at the Simon Squash Center.
