WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. - Today the Williams Men's Squash team played their last match of 2023 against Columbia and lost 8-1. The team showed solid effort down the line with a few close games.Eph head coach
Hesham Aly said, "It was another tough match against a high ranked team, and we look to take what we learned into the second half of the season."
Starting off the Ephs on the three court system was co-captain Will Evans, who faced a skilled opponent and lost in three. Next up was Alex Akbari, who played tight squash but ultimately fell in three. Last up for the Ephs was Charles Merrill, who also fell in three to a talented opponent.
Starting off the second round for Williams was Asher Leavy. He started strong, using his high pace and retrievals to take the first two games. However, he couldn't keep it up and lost 3-2. Next up was first year Hudson Lin, who used all the tools in his toolkit and managed to win the second game, but fell 3-1. And last up in the second round was Leonard Lee, who faced a talented player and lost 3-0.
And wrapping up the last round of squash was co-captain Andrew Minnis, who played against a solid opponent and lost 3-0. John Nicholson started strong, taking the first game, but couldn't keep it up and lost 3-0. However, first-year Nick Agger continues to impress, playing some of his best squash yet. Playing every shot with confidence and feeling like he couldn't miss, he won 3-0, taking the only win for the team.Â
It was another tough match against a strong opponent for the Ephs. After facing off against the top teams in the nation this fall, Williams has gained some valuable experience, which they look to apply to their matches in 2024.
