Amherst, MA- Williams College (10-11-0, 5-8-0 NESCAC) falls 2-0 to #1 NESCAC seed and #4 nationally ranked Amherst College (21-2-0, 13-2-0 NESCAC) after an empty net goal seals the game with a minute left to play.
Game Highlights
- Five minutes into the first period, 4:25, Amherst was able to sneak a puck into the back of the net by offensively screening
Erin Pye, preventing her from being able to see the puck making the game 1-0.
- Ellia Chaing had two very near shots a few minutes later after a breakaway attempt almost tying the score but missed just wide and hit the pipe on the rebound. Williams maintained this aggression with many close shots after receiving a power play but was unfortunately unable to convert on it, blocked by opposing goaltender Natalie Stott.
- In the third,
Erin Pye was able to make a huge save by stacking the pads in front of the goal and was able to make 2 more additional rebound saves preventing Amherst from lengthening their lead.
- Williams received a penalty for tripping but that did not slow down the Ephs,
Maddie Tix carved out a breakaway short handed and nearly scored to tie the game but it was blocked by Stotts pad.
- Williams called a time out to pull the goalie for the extra attacker. Williams had a couple quick chances right off the ensuing faceoff. In the last few minutes of the game Williams maintained good control of the puck which put a ton of pressure in front of the Amherst net allowing them many shot opportunities but Amherst found the puck and shot to clear it out of their zone managing to score on the empty net at 19:25, making the final score of the game 2-0.
- Coach Gillis said "we had some great chances and great moments to score tonight against a great team. The 6 on 5 alone had a number of chances and we are excited to play them again tomorrow."
