PHILADELPHIA, PA – Last night, the Williams women's squash traveled to Philly to compete in the National Collegiate Women's Team Championships. Heading into the tournament, the Ephs were seeded #13 in the country with a 12-9 regular season record after playing the most matches of any team. In the first round of the Kurtz Cup, competing for 9
th place overall, the Ephs were paired against #12 Stanford. Williams played well tonight but it was not enough to take down the Cardinals.
First up tonight, #3
Theresa Kay faced off against a strong opponent. While the sophomore demonstrated focus and skill, she fell in straight games. At the same time, #5
Deena Iqbal and #7
Nora Brant were entrenched in close matches. Both Ephs took their first games with some high-quality shots. But, they weren't able to remain consistent and lost 3-1.
In Round 2, #1
Haley Jefferson challenged a top #15-ranked college squash player against whom she put up many skillful points before falling in straight games. A few courts over, #9
Nikita Srivastava put the first point on the board for the Ephs. The captain played extremely clean, strategic squash to win 3-0. #6
Roshni Pal demonstrated talent and athleticism, but the Cardinals took the match 3-0.
The last round began, and #2
Quan Ng stepped on court. She fought hard through 3 tight games, but her opponent's cross court nicks and skillful shots gave her the upper hand to pull out the victory. #4
Amanda Solecki saw a similar result in her match. She played long rallies, nearly took the second game 13-11, but eventually fell 3-0. Next door, #8
Mira Kamat had an impressive showing. She used pace to win her match 3-0 and a 2
nd point for the Ephs.
The Ephs will continue on to compete for 13
th place in the nation. They will take on #16 Bowdoin for the 3
