Springfield, MA — Some members of the Williams Women's Track and Field team competed in the Springfield College Triangle Classic on Saturday, February 18, 2023. They ran, jumped, and threw against athletes from other DIII schools like Tufts University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Connecticut College. The Ephs achieved many personal records and DIII New England Championship Qualifying marks at their last meet prior to the postseason.
In the finals of the 60m dash, sophomore Rachel Arthur finished 3rd, running a time of 7.98Â and qualifying for DIII New Englands. Freshman Ella Sukup also ran the 60m and finished in 10th with a college best time of 8.31. Next up, senior captain Hannah Brown was the sole Williams competitor in the 60m hurdles. She crossed the line in 10.35 and placed 10th. Also in the sprints, four Ephs raced the 200m dash. Arthur won the event with a DIII New Englands Qualifying time of 26.85. She was closely followed by Sukup, who came in 2nd with a time of 27.13. Sophomores Gabby Odoom and Alisa Kanganis finished in 6th and 11th, respectively. Odoom ran a 28.03, and Kanganis ran a 29.26. In the final sprinting event, the 400m, Sukup took 1st place with a DIII New Englands Qualifying and season's best time of 1:01.18. In her first 400m ever, Odoom finished 9th with a time of 1:04.86. Kanganis placed 13th in a time of 1:05.47.
Switching to mid-distance and distance events, the Ephs placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the 800m, all qualifying for DIII New Englands. Lucy Gagnon '24 took 1st with a time of 2:18.67, senior captain Lilly Wells took 2nd in 2:19.22, and Sophie Rosencrans '25 finished in 3rd with a personal best time of 2:27.09. In the mile, senior Sammie Seamon ran a personal best and DIII New Englands Qualifying time of 5:20.47. She finished 1st in the event. Freshman Eliana Zitrin also competed in the mile and crossed the line in 5:40.24, a personal best. This put her in 7th place. The only Eph to race the 3k was senior captain Abby Scott. She won the event, running a DIII New Englands Qualifying time and personal best of 10:20.99.
Last to compete on the track was the 1600m relay. The team of Gagnon, Rosencrans, Seamon, and Scott placed in 1st with a time of 4:11.51.
The Ephs also had many successful performances in the field events. In the pole vault, freshman Jae Yu placed 3rd, jumping a DIII New Englands Qualifying mark of 3.45m. Arthur, in her third event of the day, placed 5th in the long jump. She jumped a personal best of 5.06m. Freshman Emma Miller competed in the shot put and the weight throw. She placed 3rd in the shot with a DIII New Englands Qualifying throw of 11.58m. In the weight throw she placed 9th, throwing 12.09m.
Overall, select members of the Williams Women's Track and Field team worked hard to put up impressive marks this Saturday. They are looking forward to the end of next week, on Friday February 24th and Saturday February 25th, where those who qualified for DIII New Englands will compete in the Championship at the Track at New Balance in Boston.
