Springfield, MA – Williams Wrestling sent five representatives down to Springfield on Saturday to compete in the 2023 NEWA Futures meet hosted by Western New England University.
First year
Max Hall led the way for the Ephs with a fourth-place finish in a deep field at 174 which he earned through stringing together three consecutive wins to start the day, including a 14-12 sudden victory nail-biter in his first bout.
Jack Murphy delivered a strong showing to begin the day at 157, with back-to-back dominant wins by pin and major decision respectively. Unfortunately, his day was cut short due to injury in the next round.
At 125,
Lucas Johnson pinned his first-round opponent before facing a setback in the next round. He responded well, delivering a major decision victory in his first consolation bracket match but was unable to add another tally to the win column on the day.
The Ephs return to action this coming weekend in Portland, Maine for the NCAA Northeast Regional. The stakes will be at all all-time high with each wrestler competing for a ticket to the NCAA Championship in Roanoke, Virginia.
