Boston, MA – The Ephs kicked off day one of the 2023 New England Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday evening. The day's competition featured events such as the pentathlon, short-sprint prelims, jumping events, and various relays. By the end of the action-packed day, Williams had accumulated 55.33 points and led in the team scores. After Friday, Tufts (37 points) and Middlebury (31.33 points) trailed behind the Ephs in 2nd and 3rd, respectively. 
Livi Mazerolle '26, Hannah Brown '23, and Hayden Colfax '25 represented Williams in the pentathlon on Friday. Mazerolle placed fourth overall with a total of 3065 points, a new personal record. She recorded personal bests in three of her five events, including the 60m hurdles, shot put, and the 800m race. In the hurdles, Mazerolle placed seventh in 10.05 seconds. She went on to hit a new personal best of 10.88m on her first shot put attempt of the day, placing third in the event. In the 800m, her fifth place finish in 2:39.22 was her fastest ever in the event. Mazerolle also placed second in the high jump, and eighth in the long jump. Hannah Brown '23 placed eighth in the pentathlon with a total of 2653 points. Brown hit a new personal best in the 60 hurdles, placing sixth with a time of 9.94 seconds. She also hit a new record in the 800m, finishing in 2:45.41 for tenth place. Brown also had strong performances in shot put and high jump, placing sixth in both events. Finally, Brown placed eleventh in long jump. Although Colfax didn't finish the pentathlon, her first four events were highly successful. Colfax took third in the 60m hurdles with a quick time of 9.33 seconds. She then placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.51m. She also placed eighth in the shot put with 9.15m and then fifth in the long jump with 4.97m. 
Kiara Tan '23 and Rachel Arthur '25 represented the Ephs in the 60m dash prelims. Nearly matching her personal best, Tan took first place with a time of 7.62 seconds. Arthur took 15th in the prelims with a time of 8.07 seconds.
The jumpers and vaulters had a strong day of competition. Ellie Fitzgerald '26 took third overall in the pole vault with a mark of 3.73m – a new personal best and #3 on the Williams All-Time list. Also in the pole vault, Poppy Miller '25 and Jae Yu '25 both recorded a mark of 3.48m, with Miller coming in 8th and Yu in 11th. This mark was a seasonal best for Miller and a new personal best for Yu. In the long jump, Kristen Chou '23 took 3rd overall with a new personal best of 5.62m. This mark is #10 Williams All-Time. Also in the long jump was Morgan Nasir '25, who placed 8th with a mark of 5.37m. 
The Ephs had a strong performance in the 4000m distance medley relay. The relay team of Lucy Gagnon '24, Daisy Valle '25, Abby Scott '23, and Nora Johnson '25 took second overall with a mark of 12:04.13, securing 8 points for the Ephs. 
In the 4x200m relay, the team of Rachel Arthur '25, Camryn Taylor '24, Malia Klein '25, and Ella Sukup '26 made their mark on the track. Their time of 1:43:01 secured their second place finish and 8 points for the Ephs. This result is a new Williams all-time school record. 
The 5000m was the last event of the day. Junior 
Genna Girard won the race with a personal record time of 16:47.18. Sophomore 
Ella Ball and freshman 
Fiona Picone also both ran personal record times and took 2nd place and 10th place, respectively. Ball crossed the line in 16:55.89 and Picone finished in 17:55.52.
The Ephs are eager to get back on the track Saturday and compete in a variety of events, including the majority of the individual races, field events, and additional relays.
