Ephs Win the New England Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships

Boston, MA – With a variety of outstanding performances throughout the weekend, the Ephs were crowned the Women's New England Division III Indoor Track & Field champions for the 2022-2023 season. Overall, Williams took 1st with a total of 127.33 points, followed by Tufts University in 2nd (108 points) and MIT in 3rd (89.50 points). The Ephs maintained their lead from Friday's competition with incredible marks in individual track and field events, as well as relays. 


The 60m dash finals kicked off Saturday's running competitions. After taking 1st in the prelims, Kiara Tan '23 had another impressive race in finals. Her time of 7.62 seconds secured her a 2nd place finish in the finals. The 400m dash was the next sprint event on the track and featured multiple Ephs. Camryn Taylor '24 led the pack, finishing in 57.83 seconds for 3rd place overall. Malia Klein '25 also competed in the 400m, taking 11th place with a time of 59.45 seconds. Ella Sukup '26 took 23rd in the 400m with a time of 1:02.06. In the 600m, Elsa Martin '25 placed 8th and hit a new personal best with her time of 1:38.32. In the same event, Greta Vaughn '26 finished in 1:39.97 for 11th place and a new personal record. The short sprinters returned to the track for the 200m dash. After success in the 60m finals, Kiara Tan '23 ran a strong 200m, taking 3rd with a time of 25.33. Close behind was Rachel Arthur '25 who finished in 25.98 seconds for 6th place. 

The day's excitement continued in the throws and jumps. Emma Miller '26 represented the Ephs in the throwing events. In the shot put, Miller recorded an impressive mark of 11.52m and placed 8th overall. In the high jump, Livi Mazerolle '26 and Amelie Jamanka '26 tied for 10th place, both with a mark of 1.55m. 

Next up, the Ephs dominated in the middle distance and distance events. In the 800m, Nora Johnson '25 took 9th place with a personal record time of 2:20.14. Three Ephs competed in the 1000m. Lucy Gagnon '24 won the event with a time of 2:54.17, a new personal record for her. Gagnon was closely followed by senior captain Lilly Wells who placed 2nd in a personal record time of 2:57.81. Sophie Rosencrans '25 also achieved a personal record, running 3:05.86 and placing 16th. Molly Fitzgibbons '24 and Sammie Seamon '23 both competed in the mile. Fitzgibbons won the race in a speedy time of 4:56.45. Seamon placed 21st with a personal record time of 5:19.42. The Ephs achieved more top place finishes in the 3000m, with Ella Ball '25 coming 2nd with a personal record time of 9:47.41 and Molly Fitzgibbons taking 3rd in a personal record time of 9:52.48. Senior captain Abby Scott also competed in this event and ran 10:25.43, putting her in 12th.

The 4x400m and 4x800m relays were the last events on the track for the Ephs. The 4x400m relay team of Malia Klein '25, Daisy Valle '25, Ella Sukup '26, and Camryn Taylor '24 ran a strong race, finishing in 9th with a time of 4:02.96. The 4x800m team of Lilly Wells '23, Nora Johnson '25, Sammie Seamon '24, and Alex Bettez '23 was also one to watch. Their time of 9:32.08 secured them a 4th place finish overall. 

After a solid training period and successful indoor season, the Ephs are excited to be named the 2023 New England Division III Indoor Track & Field champions. A select few will move on to compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Crossplex Facility in Birmingham, AL next month. The rest of the team looks forward to kicking off the 2023 outdoor season on their training and competition trip to San Diego, CA this coming March.
