Ephs Defeat Bobcats 8-1

Lewiston, ME - For their second match of the Spring season The Ephs trekked up to Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. Despite their travels, the Ephs brought energy and grit to their match up against the Bobcats, winning with an overall score of 8-1. Head Coach Anik Cepeda reflects, "They found a way to stay buoyant and positive today under challenging circumstances. It was impressive to see. They competed well."

The Ephs started off doubles bouncing and cheering. Number one team Katherine Orgielewicz and Yuu Ishikawa won handily with their lethal serve and volley combos. Number two team Jade Ladaga and Ananya Aggarwal also beat their Bobcat opponents with their consistency and positive energy. In a close match, number three team Maya Jamroz and Mia Thomann secured the third win for Williams, giving the Ephs a comfortable 3-0 lead into singles.

Despite their lead, the Bobcats stepped up in singles, used to the surface of their indoor courts. Both number three and four players Ishikawa and Aggarwal both dropped their first sets. Ishikawa turned her match around winning 6-2 in the second set and 10-6 in the third tiebreak set. Aggarwal lost a close first set in the tiebreak. In the second, the Eph increased her pace and started bouncing between points. In an epic battle, saving several match points, Aggarwal moved her opponent around, bringing her to the net and lobbing to win 7-6(9) and 10-7 in the final third set tiebreaker.

Number one and five players Orgielewicz  and Ladaga both stepped up to the challenge and took their first sets in close battles. In their second sets the Ephs won decisively, putting Williams at a 7-0 lead. Number six player Jamroz also played a close match, but by staying aggressive and energetic, she secured another win for the Ephs.
