WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. -- The Ephs are back in action this weekend for the 2023 season and are hungry to get back out there and compete on Farley-Lamb Field. "We have grown a lot over the last year, and our team's bonds on-and-off the field are showing up in how we play together and how we compete each day to make each other better. There is a lot of energy and competitive fire on the team, and practices have been a great balance of competition, fun, and bringing out the best in each other," Eph Head Coach Alice Lee stated when asked about the emotions in the locker room.
The Ephs are returning star-studded player Shea van den Broek who recorded 46 points in 13 games. Along with van den Broek, Coach Lee emphasized the importance of their senior leadership, "Our three captains, Meaghan McCarthy, Isabel Arvelo, and Caitlyn Joyce, have been all-in since before they even set foot on campus this fall. We have strong leadership in the three of them and how they role model commitment, hard work, and our core values."
Although the team brings in a big class of nine first-years, Lee noted that there is a lot of promise in this group. "It's a stellar group with the returners and first-years, and each person bringing their own strengths to our systems" Lee stated.
With nine first-years, seven sophomores, eight juniors, and six seniors on the team this year, the Ephs have built a team ready to compete in the NESCAC and out-of-conference. Â
When asked about NESCAC play, Lee offered, "We are ready to compete and are looking forward to the opportunity to play highly competitive lacrosse in each NESCAC and non-conference game we play this year."
The Ephs this year will have a clear identity, one that the parents, fans, coaches, and players will be proud of. Lee remarked, "Our focus is all on us and the little wins we set for ourselves each day. We are enjoying each opportunity we get to grow together and compete, and are excited to see what we can create as a team this year. Each player plays such an important role on our team, and we are looking forward to developing throughout the season and playing our most competitive lacrosse throughout the upcoming months!"
The Ephs open up on the road at Trinity College on Saturday, March 4th at 12 pm, followed by the home-opener against Smith College on Sunday, March 5th at 1 pm.Â
