Ephs Defeat Thoroughbreds 6-3

Saratoga Springs, NY - For their first match back on the East Coast, the Ephs face off against Skidmore College this afternoon. Despite a short setback after doubles, the Ephs bounced back and won 6-3. Head Coach Anik Cepeda reflects, "Skidmore came out swinging and our doubles teams were tentative and too reactive. They did a nice job bouncing back in the singles emotionally and physically."

From the start, the Thoroughbreds came out extremely strong and brought a lot of fire and energy from the first point. Their energy ultimately led to a loss for number two doubles team Ananya Aggarwal and Jane Ladaga, who could not close under the pressure. The environment was high pressure and filled with intensity after number three doubles also lost their match, and the Ephs fought to stave off a 0-3 deficit. Number one doubles team Katherine Orgielewicz and Yuu Ishikawa went down 5-2. In an attempt to swing the momentum back their way, they began to attack and make their opponents feel extremely uncomfortable, and they managed to close out the match at 8-6.

Down 1-2, the Ephs regrouped and bounced back in singles. Number two Ishikawa fought to secure her first set 6-4, and subsequently sailed to a win with a 6-1 second set. Number three Mia Thomann found a solid win after a competitive match at 6-3, 6-3. Number four Aggarwal quickly pulled through her singles match which allowed the remaining players to relax on their courts. Though number one Orgielewicz lost a tough first set 7-6, due to her stamina and patience she quickly bounced back and defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1. Subsequently, number six Maya Jamroz found a speedy 6-1, 6-3 win, while Williams won with an overall score of 6-3.

Cepeda adds, "Kudos to the whole squad for staying composed and focused — it's not easy to flip the script when we're away. Looking forward to hosting a pair of NESCAC opponents this weekend." The Ephs look forward to playing Trinity on their home courts tomorrow at 2pm and the triple header weekend.
